Yoga Tips And Advice - 5 Things You Need To Know

Yoga Advice I Wish I Had Before Starting..

1. YOU CAN'T BE "BAD" AT YOGA.

Being able to do things or unable to do certain things doesn't make you better or worse at yoga. It just means you are at a different phase of your journey. Don't let what you can't do, stop you from starting. (Plus, yoga is so much more than a physical practice, but that's for another time.)

2. THINGS TAKE TIME, BUT YOU HAVE TIME.
We live in an instant world, where we are so used to getting almost everything we want, when we want it. Your yoga practice doesn't work like that, and that's the beauty of it. There is no rush, to be somewhere or to get to a certain pose. You have time and you get to choose how you use that time.
3. YOU KNOW YOUR BODY.

Listen to your body. Perhaps you've found yourself in a class where a teacher calls for a pose that simply doesn't feel good for you or adjusts you in a way that doesn't feel right. Understand that you know your body and the feedback it is giving you. Honour that feedback by taking a step back or asking not to be assisted.

4. TAKE WHAT YOU NEED, LEAVE WHAT YOU DON'T.

There is so much to be learned in the world of yoga, some things may resonate more with you than others, that is okay. It doesn't make you less, it makes you human. There is no right or wrong way to practice YOUR yoga. It doesn't matter how you flow, what you wear or what it looks like. It only matters how it feels to YOU.

5. YOUR PRACTICE WILL EBB + FLOW (just like you).
When you start off practicing yoga (or anything), motivation is always at its highest. It's easy to be consistent and it's easy to show up and roll your mat out. Throughout your journey, you might face periods where you feel less called to your physical practice depending on the season of life you are in. Give yourself the freedom and space to find your way back to your mat, when it feels right for you. Your practice is for you and no one else.

Love,
Jess
